About Writers4Hire (W4H+)

What is Writers4Hire (W4H+)?

Writers4Hire (W4H+) is a Singapore-based studio that focuses on copywriting and clear corporate communication. For more than 25 years, we have helped organisations cut through the clutter and say what they mean in a way their readers understand, believe and act on, from annual and sustainability reports to advertising campaigns and social media. We work in teams, with a writer and a dedicated project manager on every project, and we use current tools and techniques to improve both how we write and how we run projects. We work directly with clients and as the writing partner to design and production companies.

Who is behind Writers4Hire?

Writers4Hire (W4H+) is led by its founder, Crystal Song-Dijong. She holds a commerce degree from the University of Alberta, majoring in accounting, and began her career at Price Waterhouse before moving into copywriting. She has worked in advertising, including at BBDO Malaysia, and headed marketing communications and creative services at Singapore broadcasting companies. She serves as Chief Editor of Writers4Hire, overseeing editorial quality on every project. In her own time, she mentors marketing and copywriting students. She has been guest lecturing at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak since 2022, guiding business students on clear writing and visual communications through their final-year project.

What kinds of work does Writers4Hire take on?

Writers4Hire (W4H+) covers the full range of corporate and marketing writing. We write copy for advertising campaigns, social media, websites and corporate presentations. We help conceptualise and develop corporate publications, from annual and sustainability reports to commemorative books. We turn complex technical material into clear white papers and plain-language documents. We also write leadership messages, speeches and video scripts, and manage translations into major Asian languages.

Annual and sustainability reports

Do you write annual reports and sustainability reports in Singapore?

Yes. Annual reports and sustainability reports are a core part of our work at Writers4Hire. We shape the narrative structure, write the chairman’s and CEO’s messages and draft the sections in between. See examples of annual and sustainability reports we have written.

Why use an external writer like Writers4Hire for your annual report?

An external writer reads your report the way your shareholders will. Inside an organisation, it is easy to lose sight of what an outsider needs explained. We come in without internal assumptions, so we notice the gaps, the jargon and the claims that need more support.

At Writers4Hire (W4H+), we do not simply edit what we are given. We ask questions until we understand the bigger picture: the strategy, the pressures of the year and what leadership most needs readers to take away. Grammar and flow matter, but making sense of the material comes first. Our aim is always to put across what the client means in the strongest way the facts allow.

We also write so that readers care. A report can be accurate and still leave its readers unmoved. We find the people, decisions and moments behind the numbers and let them carry the story, without overstating anything the evidence cannot support.

You work in a team, not with a lone writer. A dedicated project manager coordinates contributors across your team and your design agency, tracks milestones and keeps approvals moving so the report is delivered on time.

What makes a good annual report or sustainability report?

A good annual or sustainability report makes a clear case about the year and backs it with evidence the reader can check. In practice, that comes down to six things.

  • One central message, agreed early, that every section supports. Without it, a report reads as a set of departmental submissions bound together.
  • Leadership messages that say something specific: what went well, what did not and what changes next year. We don’t write leadership statements that sound like they could belong to any company.
  • Figures with their explanation alongside. A dip in revenue or a rise in emissions needs the reason next to it.
  • The same terms, figures and targets throughout the report and between the annual and sustainability reports when both are published.
  • Targets with a baseline year, a deadline and honest progress, including where the organisation fell short. Reporting only the good news undermines trust in everything else.
  • Alignment with GRI, TCFD or IFRS S1 and S2 that supports the narrative.
Can you edit or proofread a report we have written in-house?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) can edit and proofread annual reports and sustainability reports drafted by client teams. That includes checking that terms and figures are consistent across sections (outside the financial statements, which are the domain of auditors), tightening the writing and applying your house style. We also run AI-assisted editorial audits, overseen by a close and experienced human read. These help us pick out figures that do not match across sections, details that look out of place and facts that need checking against their source, which are among the easiest mistakes to miss in a long report. Our Chief Editor reviews all our work, and we can step in at any stage, including the final round before print.

Leadership communications

Do you write speeches and messages for CEOs?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) can write speeches, chairman’s and CEO’s messages and thought leadership pieces for senior leaders. Before drafting, we spend time with the speaker or with the people who know how they speak. The aim is to make sure the final draft sounds natural to them and that they are comfortable being quoted on it.

Can you help with commemorative publications?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) writes anniversary books, milestone publications and heritage pieces, from the first concept to final copy. These usually draw on interviews and archive material. We work with everyone involved so the publication does justice to the organisation’s history. Check out some examples of our work on our website.

Do you translate into Asian languages?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) works across Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese, Korean, Tamil and Thai. Every translation is handled by a translator fluent in the language who ensures that the meaning, tone and cultural references come across as intended.

Copywriting and technical writing

Do you write copy for advertising and social media?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) writes advertising campaign copy, social media posts, push notifications and other microcopy for brands in Singapore and the region. Short copy leaves little room, so every word has to work and sound like the brand. We take on single campaigns and retained work.

Can you simplify complex technical papers?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) can evolve technical, scientific and regulatory material into writing that non-specialist readers can follow without losing accuracy. That includes white papers, explainers and summaries for boards, investors and the public. Technical documents are usually written by specialists for other specialists, so the main point can get lost in detail and terminology. When boards, investors, regulators or customers cannot follow the argument, good work is overlooked and decisions take longer. Our role is to make sure the people who need to approve, fund or adopt an idea understand it. We work with our clients’ subject experts to understand the big picture and ensure all the important bits get through.

AI and how we work with it

Does Writers4Hire use AI?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) uses AI for research, for exploring options, for testing ideas and for early drafts. Our experienced writers then shape, check and finish every piece and each draft goes through our triple-check process before it reaches you. Where facts and figures need your expertise to verify, we flag them for you. The aim is communication that sounds like you, not like AI. Read more about our AI approach on our website.

What is an AI editorial audit?

An AI editorial audit is a review of content produced with the help of AI tools, before or after it is published. At Writers4Hire (W4H+), we check each factual claim, figure, name, date and quotation against its source, and flag anything that cannot be traced or may be out of date. We also look for inconsistencies, generic phrasing and places where the tone has drifted from your brand. Facts that only your team can confirm, such as internal data, are flagged for you to verify. You receive a marked-up document and a short summary of what needs fixing and why. Read more about our AI approach on our website.

What is AI editorial governance?

AI editorial governance is the set of rules an organisation follows when it uses AI to produce content. It covers what AI may and may not be used for, who reviews the output, how facts are checked and how the brand voice is kept consistent. At Writers4Hire (W4H+), we help teams set these rules down as practical editorial guidelines, a style guide and a set of prompts they can use.

Can we use ChatGPT instead of hiring a writer?

For some work, yes. ChatGPT and similar tools are a reasonable starting point for routine content. Having said that, in our experience at Writers4Hire (W4H+), AI alone is not enough. It does not know your strategy, your stakeholders or what you have said before and it can state errors with confidence. Good output also depends on knowing what to ask for and that comes from experience with the work. We use the same tools, but our experience as writers directs them and checks the results because we take responsibility for what we write that goes out. If your team already uses AI, we can check its drafts for accuracy and tone before they go out, or set up the guidelines and prompts that help your team get better results.

Why does our AI-generated content not sound like us?

AI tools tend to produce the most likely wording for a prompt, so their output drifts towards what many organisations already say. The result is often correct but interchangeable. Sounding like yourself starts with knowing what is true about your organisation: your values, your point of view and how you work. Writers4Hire (W4H+) can help you define that voice in writing so your people and your AI tools can apply it consistently.

Can you train our team to use AI for communications?

Yes. Writers4Hire (W4H+) can help your teams build the guidelines, prompts and review steps that keep AI-assisted content accurate and on-brand. Sessions use your own material, so the skills carry straight into daily work.

Training covers five basics:

  • When to use AI for communications and when not to
  • What information should never go into an AI tool
  • How to brief AI so it produces usable drafts
  • How to edit those drafts into your brand voice
  • How to check facts, figures and sources before anything is published

Working with Writers4Hire (W4H+)

How do you work with clients?

Every project starts with a briefing conversation. At Writers4Hire (W4H+), we want to understand the audience, the goals, including what has been tried before that might not have worked. One of our dedicated project managers then agrees the budget and timeline with you and coordinates contributors and approvals. They keep you informed at each stage and make sure every milestone is met. We then share drafts and options and refine them with you. We do not cap the rounds of revisions, because getting the brief right is our responsibility.

Who will write our content?

Crystal Song-Dijong, founder of Writers4Hire (W4H+), leads every project as Chief Editor. She is supported by one or more experienced senior writers of your choice from our team and a dedicated project manager who coordinates contributors and keeps milestones on track. We take on a limited number of clients at a time so each one gets full attention.

How much does it cost to work with Writers4Hire?

Fees depend on the scope, the length of the document and the timeline. We quote after a briefing conversation, once we understand what the project needs.

How long does an annual report take?

An annual report typically takes three weeks to three months from briefing to final draft, depending on the size and extent of the scope and how quickly content and approvals come through. We can work to tight deadlines and will tell you at the start what is realistic.

Do you take on one-off projects or only retainers?

Both. Some of our longest client relationships began with a single project. We also work on retainer with organisations that need a consistent writing partner through the years.

Do you work with clients outside Singapore?

Yes. Writers4Hire is based in Singapore and works with clients in Malaysia, across Southeast Asia and in the wider Asia-Pacific. Most of our work suits remote collaboration and we meet in person when a project needs it.

What size of organisation do you work with?

Our clients range from micro businesses and SMEs to large listed groups and government bodies. Writers4Hire (W4H+) has stayed a boutique writing agency since our establishment in 2001 because we believe that by keeping our client list small, each project gets full attention and we can continue to enjoy what we do.

How do you handle confidential information?

We regularly work with unpublished and price-sensitive material, including draft financials and pre-announcement content. We sign non-disclosure agreements on request and do not discuss client work without permission.

Choosing a writer

How do I choose a corporate writer in Singapore?

When choosing a corporate writer in Singapore, look at five things:

  • Experience with your type of communication and, ideally, your industry. Ask for relevant samples.
  • Long-standing client relationships. Repeat clients are one of the most reliable signals of quality.
  • A thorough briefing process. A strong writer asks about your audience, stakeholders and business context.
  • Familiarity with Singapore and regional audiences, including the reporting expectations that apply to listed companies.
  • A clear way of working: who will write the work, how reviews and approvals run, how AI is used and how confidential material is handled.
When should a company hire a professional writer?

Hire a professional writer when the margin for error is small. That includes an annual report going to shareholders, a sustainability report read by investors and regulators, an IPO prospectus, a website rewrite before a major launch and a speech that will be quoted. In these moments, the cost of getting it wrong is higher than the cost of the writer.

How do I brief a copywriter?

A useful brief covers four things: who the audience is, what they should think or feel after reading, the one thing you most need to say and what success looks like. Tone, length and format can be agreed together afterwards. A good brief opens a conversation rather than trying to settle everything upfront.
